Has it ever happened to you that you have a vision of what you have been trying to achieve, and unexpectedly an opportunity comes along, changing everything?
When I work with clients on their goals, we start with the vision of what they are planning to achieve, and we discuss their timeline expectations. When we talk about why some of their goals have not been reached, a few things come up, and today I would like to share one interesting aspect: opportunities.
Many times, the "opportunities" that present themselves can seem very tempting at the moment, as they involve an attractive source of income, a business opportunity, a new job, something we like and have always wanted to do, or something we are interested in. Sometimes, they may lead us to travel to different countries, or they could be the chance to develop a personal interest, etc. At that moment, the "opportunity" may seem too tempting to pass up.
However, it is important to assess how much this "opportunity" takes you away from or brings you closer to your ultimate goal if you decide to take it.
What often happens is that we take "opportunity" after "opportunity," and without realizing it, we are drifting further away from our original goal. When we notice this, instead of taking 3 years to achieve our goal, it may take us 5 or 10 years, depending on how far we have strayed from the initial plan. Sometimes, we drift so far that we no longer see returning to the goal as an option.
We often forget that we are shaping our future with every decision and action we take TODAY.
These five tips will help you stay focused on the goal you want to achieve:
Define what you want.
Create an action plan with achievable goals.
Surround yourself with positive people, those who inspire you and whom you admire.
Learn from others. What did others have to do to achieve their goals?
Ask yourself daily, "What activities did I do today regarding my goals?" And if you haven't done anything, you need to question why you don't feel motivated enough to work on them.
What opportunities have you taken that either helped or hindered your goals?
