The Power of Real Conversations
A few days ago, Iveta Skrivanova and I shared a video titled Not perfect. But real. We recorded a spontaneous conversation, without a script or preparation. There was no polished language or perfect delivery. Just two people connecting in an authentic way.
This interview was a challenge for both of us. For Iveta, it was about speaking on camera. For me, it was about speaking Czech in front of a camera—a task that still makes me feel uneasy. What emerged from our conversation was genuine. It was a bridge between two worlds, free from masks and the pressure of perfection.
We decided to share it because that’s where its strength lies. However, we received feedback that surprised us. Someone called it "pointlessly long and empty... a disappointment."
This reaction led us to reflect on why the loudest critics often lack the courage to step onto the stage themselves.
The Nature of Criticism
There’s a specific type of person who views a raw, unedited moment and labels it "pointless." They see someone finding their voice and dismiss it as "unprofessional." They witness an experiment and ask, "What’s the point?"
But here’s the truth:
Criticizing is easy. It’s safe. It allows individuals to feel superior without risking their own mistakes.
When someone attacks your "imperfection," they aren’t truly evaluating your work. They are reacting to your courage. The idea of being "imperfect" in public terrifies them. They’ve built high walls of "perfectionism" around themselves. When they see someone else tearing those walls down, they feel personally insulted.
Why Do Critics Criticize?
Projection: They don’t allow themselves to fail, so they can’t stand it when someone else does.
The Comfort of the Audience: It’s much easier to point out a flaw than to create something from nothing.
The Productivity Trap: They believe every human interaction must yield a "product." They’ve forgotten how to simply be.
A Message to the Critics: By all means, stay in the stands. It’s warm there. It’s safe.
But to the creators, the seekers, and the "perfectly imperfect": Keep sharing. Don’t be afraid to be "cringe." Keep showing up without a script.
The Importance of Authenticity
Authenticity is a powerful tool. It allows us to connect deeply with others. When we share our true selves, we invite others to do the same. This creates a ripple effect, fostering a community built on trust and vulnerability.
In our journey, we often encounter obstacles. Fear of judgment can hold us back. But remember, every time we choose to be authentic, we inspire others to embrace their own imperfections.
Finding Strength in Vulnerability
Vulnerability is not a weakness; it’s a strength. It takes courage to show up as we are. When we embrace our flaws, we create space for growth. We learn to appreciate the beauty in our unique journeys.
Have you ever felt the weight of perfectionism? It can be suffocating. But what if we shifted our focus? Instead of striving for perfection, let’s aim for progress. Let’s celebrate our small victories and learn from our setbacks.
Building a Supportive Community
As we navigate our paths, it’s essential to surround ourselves with supportive individuals. A community that encourages authenticity can make a significant difference. Together, we can uplift one another and celebrate our journeys.

Conclusion: Choose to Be Imperfect
In the end, it’s far better to be "imperfect" in the arena than to be a "perfect" spectator in the stands. Embrace your journey, imperfections and all. Share your voice, your story, and your truth.
Let’s create a world where authenticity reigns. Together, we can inspire one another to step into our power and lead with purpose.
